Minster Mondays - Supporting Nathan on His Journey to Restoration

On the very first day of our Minster Monday drop-in, a remarkable encounter took place. As I arrived at Leeds Minster, I was reunited with Nathan — a man I had previously supported. By chance, he was walking past on his way to St Anne’s and immediately recognised me. His warm greeting and heartfelt hug spoke volumes about the impact of the work we do.

Nathan shared that he was now street homeless, with nothing beyond the clothes he was wearing. We discussed potential rehabilitation options, including Alpha House, a place that could provide him with the support needed to rebuild his life.

Over the next few days, we remained in contact through regular texts and phone calls, ensuring that he knew he was not alone in this journey. During this time, we provided him with essential items, including:

  • A warm coat

  • Properly fitting shoes to relieve his painful blisters

  • Socks, hat, scarf, gloves

  • Snacks and drinks

But beyond these practical necessities, we offered something even more significant — love, kindness, and hope. We reminded him of his inherent value and spoke words of encouragement and faith over him. Nathan recently reached out to express his gratitude, emphasizing how much the love and compassion shown to him had made a difference in his life.

The most uplifting news is that he has now been offered a place in rehab and is set to begin his journey toward recovery. Before ending our call, he even accepted prayers — a significant moment highlighting his openness to transformation.

This encounter serves as a powerful reminder of Proverbs 18:21:

‘The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.’

Praise God for His endless grace!
